I have been primarily a black and white photographic artist for over 20 years. concentrating on the landscape of America. However, I am not a person who has set boundaries or limitations on what I photograph. I seek to fulfill my desire to record a circumstance or area or something that captures my attention that at some future time my be irrecoverable. Some have remarked that my work resembles that of Walker Evans. Evans banished all Artiness and Artifice from his practices. His goal was to let the subject reveal itself directly to the viewer. Evans images came close to American Literary realism. For doing so, Evans is widely regarded as one of America's greatest photographers. I can only hope to achieve a portion of his greatness. Summary: Each silver based negative is processed and printed by hand in the workspace of my "wet darkroom" on fiberbase gelatin silver glossy or matte photographic paper. My films of preference are; Ilford Delta 400, HP5 400 and Kodak T-Max 400 for most of my work. My Omega-Super Chromega D5 XL Dichroic II 4 X 5 enlarger has been my trusted darkroom companion for many years. In the beginning, many years ago, I printed my images small to conserve paper and after purchasing Super Chromega D5 XL I began to print large, up to 20" X 24", but never felt an intense connection with larger images. Certainly not as much as I do with smaller images. Small images just seem to allure me. NOTE: Images are of low resolution for internet viewing purposes. Please consider that tonal values are approximate. Sizes of original images are not stated but vary from 7" h X 9"w to 2 3/4"h X 7"'w.
